UPDATE: Apple has also released the third iOS 11.4 and tvOS 11.4.1 public betas. UPDATE 2: macOS 10.13.6 beta 3 is now available to developers. While not a major update in any way, Apple is today releasing the third developer builds for iOS 11.4.1 and tvOS 11.4.1. Being a bug fix update to the earlier release, we aren’t expecting any new user facing features. Besides the more colorful and flatter design and several features, iOS 7 introduced plenty of bugs to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Several bugs have been squashed over the course of software updates issued in the past few months, but the recurring bugs have been application crashes and random rebooting. Immediately after Apple unveiled Face ID last month, United States Senator Al Franken sent a letter to Tim Cook raising some concerns about security and privacy. A month later, and after publicly publishing a security white paper answering many of the questions, Apple has responded to Franken… In a letter from its VP for Public Policy Cynthia Hagan, Apple acknowledged many of Franken’s concerns. Apple explained that all information is sent to the on-device Secure Enclave for processing and also noted that Face ID data is encrypted and never leaves a user’s devices....

Apple deprecated what it called “ancient” technology yesterday, with the iPhone 7 lacking a 3.5mm headphone jack. A recent job posting by Apple looking for an Apple TV software engineer backs up rumors that the company is finally preparing to expand its presence in the living room. According to the job listing on Apple’s website, the company is looking for someone to “lead a team of engineers working on exciting new features and functionality” for the next-generation Apple TV. Once described by Apple as a hobby, the job listing refers to the Apple TV as a “high priority project....

Apple’s job listings are usually a good indication of what’s to come and tonight Apple began searching for four engineers with a specific focus on voice technologies in iOS. These four positions (1,2,3,4) break up into an iOS Speech Application Engineer, two Speech Recognition Engineers, and a Senior Speech Research Scientist. With three different job types, all with a focus on voice recognition, Apple appears to be serious about this....

While Spotify may lead in terms of subscribers, it’s already been proven that Apple Music can dominate even with its smaller user base. A new report from analytics firm Verto further highlights the sometimes underestimated reach of Apple Music. The report shows that Apple Music comes out on top in terms of monthly unique users, thanks in large part to the three-month free trial Apple offers. The data from Verto says that Apple Music attracted 40....

Apple last month quietly raised the price of the Apple Music student plan in several countries such as South Africa, India, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, and Israel. A month later, the company is now adjusting the prices of the Apple Music student plan in the US, Canada, and the UK. A version of the Apple Music webpage archived on June 21 still shows the old prices in the US, Canada, and UK website, which suggests that Apple has raised prices for the Apple Music student plan in the last 48 hours....

Apple has officially revealed this year’s September special event, inviting members of the press and the public to tune in remotely to watch on September 15 at 10 am PT. At the event, Apple is expected to unveil all-new hardware including a new iPad Air and new Apple Watch models. The USPTO has today published a patent application by Apple to allow a specific fingerprint to activate a ‘panic mode’ on an iPhone, designed for use when the owner feels threatened, is in danger or is being forced to unlock their phone. In its most basic form, placing a specific finger on the Touch ID button would place the iPhone into a special locked-down mode, blocking access to personal data store on the phone – perhaps simulating a brand new phone....

Last week, Apple pulled the curtains off their three new models. Each with an IP68 rating, are capable of submerging in water for 30-minutes as deep as 5-feet in the water. Another upgrade is the glass used on these devices. As per Apple, this is the most endurable glass ever used on a smartphone. For time-being, iPhone customers may be content with this, but Apple is not stopping at this. According to a patent application filed in March 2017 at the USPTO, Apple is working hard on an abrasion resistant finish that will protect your iPhone from not just scratches, but dents as well....

Apple slightly updated the Mac Pro today and promised a radical new modular design coming next year alongside a pro Apple display. Within the news shared through Daring Fireball were also mentions of a new pro iMac coming later this year and a vague reference to possibly new Mac mini hardware. Apple doesn’t typically pre-announce new hardware like it has today, but the Mac Pro is undergoing another direction shift after the last major change in 2013 which was also pre-announced ahead of time....

Apple has released a new major update to its iAd Producer application. iAd Producer 3.0 includes a slew of new templates, new workflows, a new application user interface to work in, and shared layers between projects. However, it seems that the most notable – and most necessary enhancement – is much deeper integration with iOS. Apple has released the fourth OS X 10.11.4 public beta for non-developer testers. Public beta testers running the El Capitan pre-release can find the new software update through the Mac App Store. The latest public beta update follows the fourth developer beta of the same update earlier this week. Changes coming with OS X 10.11.4 include support for viewing and sharing Live Photos taken on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus through iMessage using the Messages app as well as the ability to password-protect items in the Notes app for the first time....

Update: iOS 13.3.1, iPadOS 13.3.1, tvOS 13.3.1, macOS Catalina 10.15.3, and watchOS 6.1.2 are now available. iOS 12.4.5 is also now available for devices that are not capable of running iOS 13. HomePod has also been updated to version 13.3.1. Apple today will release iOS 13.3.1 and iPadOS 13.3.1 to the public after testing it with beta users over the past several weeks. iOS 13.3.1 includes bug fixes and performance improvements related to Screen Time and the Mail app....
