Apple has released an updated firmware version for AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro. The new firmware is version 3E751, and it comes seven months after the previous firmware version was released for AirPods and AirPods Pro users. Unfortunately, there are no release notes for AirPods firmware updates. This means we’ll have to wait until the update is fully rolled out to get a grasp on what’s new. Apple does not have a very robust update mechanism in place for AirPods software, which often leaves users in the dark about changes....

iOS 12.1 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch will be available tomorrow as a free software update. The first significant update to iOS 12 brings a variety of features including Group FaceTime, dual SIM support, real time Depth Control for Portrait mode, new emoji, and more. iOS 12.1 is also expected to address the “beauty-gate” issue that affected the front-facing camera on iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. iOS 12.1 Group FaceTime iOS 12 redesigns how FaceTime looks for audio and video calling with new effects like stickers, Memoji and Animoji, and filters....

Alongside OS X Mountain Lion today, Apple has unleashed an updated version of iWork (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) that takes advantage of the company’s latest hardware and software technologies. The new version of iWork – which includes Pages, Numbers, and Keynote – has been completely enhanced to work perfectly with the new 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display. Additionally, this new version of iWork includes iCloud Documents in the Cloud support....

Apple’s antitrust issues have again hit the headlines this week – not just once, but twice. Apple’s autonomous car project is no secret to anyone following the company closely. Apple uses Lexus SUVs that drive on the streets of Cupertino to do its autonomous testing. As reported by MacRumors, one of Apple’s autonomous vehicles was involved in an accident and the company is required to report this information to the DMV. The accident happened on August 24, 2018, at approximately 2:58 p.m. Fortunately, nobody was hurt and the car was actually rear-ended by another vehicle while attempting to merge onto another road....

A new report from CNBC this evening claims that the Apple executive responsible for the company’s iCloud infrastructure has left the company. Eric Billingsley was Apple’s director of internet services operations, overseeing much of the iCloud backend… The report says Patrick Gates will take over Billingsley’s position. Gates was already in charge of infrastructure for services like Siri, but his responsibilities will now expand in lieu of Billingsley. Billingsley came to Apple relatively recently, joining in 2013 after time at eBay and Google....

Last time we checked in on the ongoing U.S. patent-related court cases between Apple and Samsung, Apple’s lawyers were requesting to add the Galaxy S III to its previous motion for a preliminary injunction against the Galaxy Nexus line of products from February. Apple was hoping the courts would agree to withhold sales of the S III until a ruling on the preliminary injunction was made. Samsung recommended the judge dismiss Apple’s request and file a new motion, but Apple attorney Josh Krevitt threatened Samsung at a hearing on Thursday that Apple could file a temporary restraining order as early as today to stop sales of the S III before it launches June 21....

Besides the updated design, the main selling point here is the M2 chip, which is Apple’s latest System-on-a-Chip (SoC) intended for Mac computers. It’s faster than the base M1 chip (not the M1 Pro, Max, etc.) in the previous Air, and makes this a great computer for everything from juggling Word documents to light video editing. However, the storage in this entry-level model is slightly slower than the M1 Air, which is still available for $899....

Apple announced today that it is expanding the availability of its Apple Music student membership. The company hasn’t yet confirmed a complete list of new markets, but says the discounted membership is coming to 82 new regions this month… Apple Music’s student membership is today available in an additional 79 markets, while it will further expand to three additional markets later this month on February 26th. New markets include Israel, Malaysia, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal and Taiwan....

Apple Stores are offering some notable discounts on certain accessories this month, according to promotional material sent to us in a tip. Two of the deals started this week and a third starts on August 11th. The first deal is 10% off of select Beats by Dre headphones and speakers. This deal ends on August 10th. . Digitimes reports that although rumors have claimed that Apple is preparing an iPad 3 for launch during fall 2011, Chinese part suppliers are calling the rumors false. Apple’s part suppliers have reportedly yet to receive orders for third-generation iPad components, and Apple coupled with the fact that Apple just released the iPad 2, these suppliers feel the rumors lack merit. The Chinese sources state that if a new iPad does happen to arrive during fall 2011 that it will be a minimal upgrade; perhaps a new version that “supports different communication format....

Apple’s marketing honcho Phil Schiller took it upon himself to unveil a refreshed iPod touch lineup, which now includes both black and white models (remember, we called both), plus a new breakthrough price of just $199. The iPod touch is Apple’s “most popular iPod”, Schiller told the crowd, adding this: The revamped models look the same as the fourth-generation iPod touch, which was available only in black. The new iPod touches now come in both black and white....

Apple has reportedly had to rejig production plans for the iPhone XR after one of its suppliers ran into manufacturing issues with the new phone, due to go on sale on October 26 … Apple generally uses Foxconn for the bulk of its flagship iPhone assembly, with Pegatron used more for secondary models. The company is said to have originally planned to have Pegatron produce 50-60% of iPhone XR units so that Foxconn could focus on the iPhone XS and XS Max....

As the public release in September approaches swiftly, Apple is continuing its weekly cycle of iOS 15 beta testing today. The company has released iOS 15 beta 7 and iPadOS 15 beta 7 to developers, and they are rolling out now via the Settings app on iPhone and iPad. Update: Now available to public beta testers as well. iOS 15 beta 7 and iPadOS 15 beta 7 are available to developers via an over-the-air update in the Settings app....

Apple has released the first beta versions of iOS 10.3.2, tvOS 10.2.1, and watchOS 3.2.2. These new versions follow one day after iOS 10.3, tvOS 10.2, and watchOS 3.2 were officially released. iOS 10.3.2 is currently only available in beta for registered developers. The public beta version of each update usually follows a few days after the developer version if not the same day. tvOS and watchOS are also available as beta updates, although public beta programs are not available....

Apple has released the first iOS 10.3.3 beta for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The update likely includes bug fixes and security improvements. iOS 10.3.3 beta 1 follows one day after the public release of iOS 10.3.2 for all users. iOS 10.3.3 is currently available to registered developers; a public beta version may be available shortly. Major new features for iOS are likely being saved for iOS 11 which we expect to see introduced at WWDC on June 5....
