Apple has released the iOS 11.1.2 software update for iPhone and iPad. The update includes a fix for unresponsive iPhone X screen at cold temperatures Apple previously promised a fix for the issue last week. Apple today released the third beta of watchOS 7.5 to developers, following the release of the second beta version on April 30. The update likely comes with more bug fixes and general improvements. Apple is continuing iOS 12.4 developer and public beta testing with the fifth release coming later today. iOS 12.4 is expected to be the first software update to support Apple Card, the company’s new consumer credit card launching in the US sometime this summer. Bloomberg reported last week thast Apple has expanded internal Apple Card testing to include retail employees, vastly growing the test group beyond corporate staff. Today’s new beta release and the recent test expansion suggest that Apple Card likely isn’t coming in June, but perhaps a launch sometime next month is being planned....

Apple is reportedly in talks with department store Nordstrom to join as a partner for the company’s mobile payment system, as noted by Bank Innovation. As has been previously reportedly, Apple is also in talks with several other retailers about the possibility of accepting iPhone-based payments, and has deals in place with MasterCard and American Express as well as Chinese payment processor UnionPay to support the feature. According to the Bank Innovations report, people familiar with Nordstrom’s systems have confirmed that the company’s current point-of-sale hardware is purchased from Apple and recently received a software update to work “with the latest iPhones....

Digital Music News today reports that Apple is “on schedule” to rid the iTunes Store Music Store of downloads by 2019. Digital Music News first reported the Apple was planning to shut down iTunes music downloads in 2016, but Apple denied the report flat-out, saying that it was “simply not true.” Apple’s statement today echoes the initial denial, almost verbatim. Apple’s Wednesday, September 9th event is shaping up to be one of the largest in the company’s history. The Cupertino-based company is planning to unveil several major new products on stage, including a pair of new iPhones with revamped internals, a sequel to the Apple TV, a larger version of the iPad Air, a refreshed iPad mini, and new Apple Watch accessories. The company is also likely to discuss at least two of its latest software platforms: iOS 9 and watchOS 2....

Kuo claims that Apple’s industrial design requirements for the new head-mounted display are “much higher than competitors’ products.” The analyst says that Apple wants to have a solid ecosystem of hardware, software, and services at launch. As a result, the product could be delayed. Apple appears to be making an aggressive move to poach more staff from Imagination Technologies, the British chip designer behind the GPUs used in iOS devices. The Telegraph reports that Apple has set up its own GPU design team in offices just a few miles from Imagination’s campus. The “Apple In-App Purchase Litigation Administrator” just sent out an email with information regarding the settlement and deadlines for submitting payment requests. In short, those with charges under $30 will receive a $5 iTunes gift card. Cash refunds will be distributed to those with bills exceeding that amount....

Apple today began selling the 8th-generation iPad in its Refurbished Store, which was officially released in late 2020. Customers can now save up to $90 when buying the latest entry-level iPad model when compared to the retail price. As noted by MacRumors, prices start at $279 for the refurbished Wi-Fi model with 32GB of storage, which costs $329 when purchased in the regular Apple Store. Last fall, Apple launched its first Impact Accelerator program designed to advance equality in the environmental sector. As of today, applications are now open for its second program. Brazil’s Carnival starts this Saturday. Apple has just announced a new iPod touch featuring an Apple A10 Fusion chip. The new iPod looks the same as the previous generation, with a 4-inch screen flanked by large bezels and a non-Touch ID physical home button. In addition to the new chip, the device comes in a 256 GB model for the first time.
