Apple is once again sending emails to iOS developers in order to remind them about this important change that will bring their iPhone and iPad apps to the Mac....

Apple today announced a revamp of its live radio strategy for Apple Music. The Beats 1 streaming service is being renamed to ‘Apple Music 1’, and Apple is launching two new stations: Apple Music Hits and Apple Music Country. Apple Music Hits will feature the top songs spanning ’80s, ’90s and 2000’s, whilst Apple Music Country showcases the evolving nature of the country music genre. Just like Apple Music 1 (née Beats 1), the new stations will be hosted by an array of radio presenters and feature programming from guests including Meghan Trainor, the Backstreet Boys, Shania Twain, and more....

Apple’s “green push” is apparently the motivating factor behind cable-maker Volex’s plan to switch to halogen-free power cables, according to a report from London Evening Standard (via GigaOM). While the move will allow Apple to curb fears of dioxins and furans released into the environment through burning halogen, it is typically only a concern in high concentrations after a product has been disposed. The new cables will allow Apple to promote a new, greener and safer cable while continuing its commitment to reducing toxic chemicals and recycling....

According to a report due out tomorrow based on a tear-down analysis of both the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, each handset costs Apple between $173 and $218 to manufacture. AllThingsD got their hands on the report from research firm IHS a day early, and provide component and assembly breakdowns for both handsets. If IHS got their sums right, there is a surprisingly small difference in manufacturing cost between the 5c and 5s, making earlier suggestions of higher margins on the 5c seem unlikely … Though the true consumer cost of the handsets are often hidden by contract subsidies, the retail price of the 5s ranges from $649 for the 16GB model to $849 for the 64GB model, while the 5c runs from $549 to $649 – giving significantly higher margins on the more expensive model....

Shortly after the Department of Justice publicized its case against Apple, and many of us were left wondering what Apple’s tactics would be in defending itself against a case that, on the face of it, appeared pretty clear-cut, we now have some answers. GigaOM reports that Apple’s attorney Orin Snyder argued that far from being a conspirator with publishers, Apple was on the opposite site of the negotiating table, fighting hard against them and completely unaware of whatever discussions they were having between themselves … 

Update: Apple says the issue has been resolved. We’ve been receiving several tips from users having issues accessing the iTunes Store. According to Apple’s online services status page, the iTunes Store (which also covers the App Store and iBookstore) is suffering from an outage that is affecting 20% of users. Twenty percent of all of Apple’s iTunes customers is obviously a fairly significant number of people. The outage began at around 8 PM Pacific time, according to Apple, and there is no indication as to when the issues will be resolved....

Apple today officially announced that its new Fitness+ subscription service will launch on December 14. Ahead of that launch, Jay Blahnik, who servers as Apple’s senior director of fitness technologies, sat down with WSJ. Magazine talk about Fitness+, the Apple Watch, and more. One interesting tidbit is that Apple Fitness+ requires an Apple Watch. If you don’t have an Apple Watch, you can’t use Apple Fitness+. According to Blahnik, the metrics provided by the Apple Watch are intended to serve as motivation for Fitness+ users....

Fortune is out today with its annual FORTUNE 500 list ranking the largest corporations in the U.S. by revenue for fiscal 2012 (before expenditures). This year Apple, for the first time, has finally cracked the top 10 of Fortune’s list rising from its 17th place position last year to No. 6 on this year’s list. It’s still well behind Wal-Mart at No.1, as well as Exxon Mobil, which Apple happened to briefly surpass Apple’s market cap back in January to become the world’s most valuable company....

Renowned car designer Henrik Fisker is about to officially launch his new electric car company and unveiled its first vehicle, the EMotion, a $130,000 long-range premium sedan. Ahead of the launch tomorrow, some “great people” at Apple apparently got a preview of the vehicle. Apple was long-rumored to be working on its own electric and self-driving vehicle, Project Titan. The Cupertino company hired several auto industry engineers, including Tesla’s former Vice-President of Vehicle Engineering....

Following the announcement earlier this year that Apple and IBM would be teaming up to provide custom enterprise iOS software and services to businesses, the Cupertino-based company has finally published its enterprise support webpage. The page advertises features of the program such as one-hour response times for urgent support issues and a personal account manager at Apple, as well as advantages like next-day device replacement and on-site service hardware service. Twenty-four-hour support will also be available to partner employees....

Apple today has added a new featured section to the App Store in which it is highlighting apps that take advantage of the iOS VoiceOver feature. Last month, Apple was recognized by the American Foundation for the Blind for its efforts to accommodate users who suffer from vision loss. A gala is being held this evening in New York City by the American Foundation for the Blind to honor the recipients of the Hellen Keller Achievement Award, which Apple received, and to celebrate, the company has added a new App Store section showing off apps using VoiceOver....

Apple might have just leaked plans for a new line of Beats headphones to launch alongside the iPhone 7, according to an email that was reportedly sent out mistakenly by Apple’s Beats PR team and posted online by igen.fr. The news is the first confirmation of new headphones arriving from Apple with iPhone 7, its first device expected to ditch the 3.5mm headphone jack and require wireless headphones or those using its proprietary Lightning connector....

TrendForce reports that Apple has overtaken ASUS in global laptop shipments, moving up from fifth to fourth place. The firm is also predicting that Apple’s notebooks will achieve double-digit market share this year … Apple doesn’t get all the credit for this, says TrendForce – it was partly due to ASUS deliberately reducing its own shipments. But with notebook sales climbing, Apple is expected to increase its own market share to 10....

Apple Music has seen a leadership shift for the UK and Ireland markets. Ryan Newman who was until now the head of artist relations for the same market is stepping up to become the head of editorial. Reported by Billboard, Newman’s promotion to head of editorial for Apple Music in the UK and Ireland comes as Austin Daboh created the role’s vacancy to take the position of executive VP at Atlantic Records UK....

Apple is pushing its special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone aggressively this year. While the iPhone X didn’t get the red treatment this go-around, Apple has dedicated its homepage to the new red iPhone 8 and its (PRODUCT)RED accessories lineup. Included in the campaign is a super sleek new ad dedicated to the new red and black version of the iPhone 8 Plus… Last year marked the first time Apple offered a version of the iPhone in a special edition red finish with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus — which was discontinued when the iPhone 8 and iPhone X debuted....

With September’s iPhone release in the rearview and the iPad Pro set for an early November launch, Apple is ready to add some new Mac hardware into its fall product line. Apple is currently planning to announce new 21.5-inch iMacs with 4K screens next week, according to multiple reliable sources. While the new computers are likely ready to begin showing up in stores as soon as Tuesday, October 13th, Apple will ramp up larger quantities for November, according to the sources, so finding one early on may be a slight challenge....

Apple is seeking to cement its business position in China for the long-term with an expansion of its Cupertino-based Apple University program to the region, according to a person with knowledge of the plans. Apple Vice President and Dean of Apple University Joel Podolny is currently interviewing candidates for a new Dean of Apple University position for China, according to the source. Started in 2008, Apple University is an extensive and growing program within corporate Apple that trains mid-level employees and managers on the decisions made by Steve Jobs and other key executives throughout the company’s resurgence....

Apple today has published a redesigned version of its Human Interface Guidelines website for Apple Watch WatchKit application development. The new website is far cleaner than the previous website, and introduces lengthier and more interactive descriptions of the different Apple Watch interface paradigms… The new website includes short video tours of specific Apple Watch input elements, such as Force Touch, the Digital Crown, and the side button, in order to provide developers with a better look at how WatchKit apps should be developed....
