Apple has released macOS 10.12.2 beta 5 for Mac. The new update follows the initial macOS 10.12.2 beta at the end of October and multiple additional builds since. Today’s build is 16C60b compared to 16C53a and is available from the Mac App Store. macOS 10.12.2 includes Unicode 9.0 emoji support, which matches compatibility in beta versions of iOS 10.2 and watchOS 3.1.1. macOS 10.12.2 will be released to everyone in the future (expected this month), and the beta allows developers to test pre-release versions of the software update before it’s released....

Following the release of OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 a little over a month ago, Apple has released a new version of the operating system to users with bug fixes. This bug fix update will come automatically in the download for those who are still running earlier versions of Snow Leopard, but a patch is available for those who are already on 10.6.8. Software on Apple’s App Store may be reviewed by human editors and approved before distribution, but one business owner claims the iPhone maker is not doing enough to prevent copyright infringement. The Roanoke Times published a piece this week highlighting the issue of paid iOS apps scraping content from the web and packaging it in paid apps. Honda was noticeably slow to the CarPlay scene despite being committed from day one to support Apple’s infotainment feature in 2014. Earlier this year, Bill Stasior departed Apple after serving as Siri’s vice president for nearly seven years. Now, The Information reports that the former Siri boss has taken a new role in AI at Microsoft. Almost six years after the introduction of tvOS, Apple’s design team has released their first-ever design tool kit for the platform. Apple’s tvOS design kit includes all of the components you’d expect from design templates to colors, materials, and more. These new tools should make it much easier for designers and developers to create mock ups and concepts for their apps. The tvOS design kit is only available for Sketch users so if you are an Adobe XD user, you’re out of luck....

As rumors about Apple’s rumored AR headset only grow, the company is said to have hired Meta’s augmented reality communications lead. As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, he was told that Apple hired Andrea Schubert, Meta’s communications and public relations head for its augmented reality efforts. So far Bloomberg has reported that Apple’s AR headset can show text, emails, maps, games, and other things through holographic displays built into the lens....

The Cyber Readiness Institute announced this week that Apple has joined as co-chair of the institute to invest in bolstering global small business cybersecurity education and protection. Apple is planning to introduce new iPad hardware at an event in mid-March, according to sources, with the most likely device being a new iPad Air.
