It does, however, come in the gold color option that Apple previously only offered on iPhones. Apple says the new iPad Air is 18% thinner than the previous generation thanks to improvements to the display manufacturing process....

As expected, Apple today officially opened its first retail location in Singapore. Apple has recently received official approval from the FCC to test 5G wireless broadband. The company was granted permission in the form of an experimental license to test millimeter wave technology at two locations near its offices in Milpitas, California (via DSL Reports). Apple specifically referenced using the 28GHz and 39GHz bands for its testing, which the FCC initially approved for commercial 5G last year. Apple’s testing of next-generation 5G was first reported earlier this year, but it’s now confirmed thanks to the release of the FCC application....

Alongside the announcement of Apple Fitness+ launching in 15 new regions on November 3, Apple quietly made the premium tier of Apple One available soon in 17 new countries. As first spotted by German website Macerkopf, Apple will add Apple One Premier to 17 new regions even without the Apple News+ service available there. Currently, countries that offer Apple Fitness+, like New Zealand and Ireland, but don’t have Apple News+, needed to make a standalone subscription....

Apple has launched a new online store through Tmall, a Chinese popular e-commerce site Tmall, reports the Wall Street Journal. Tmall, which is owned by the Alibaba Group, is already home to thousands of official retail outlets for other brands, such as Nike. The new storefront will not replace Apple’s own first-party store, but will instead complement it. Like the store on Apple’s website, the Tmall store will be participating in Apple’s “Red Friday” sales event later this week....

The official trailer for Apple Pie Jones was uploaded today to Slice VR’s YouTube channel, showing off lasers, box-throwing mechanics, and a glimpse at what puzzles might be like. Previously titled Colonel Apple Pie Jones, this game was at the Austin Vive VR Jam Project earlier this year, so people already had the opportunity to test out possibilities of what was to come. As Tim Cook announced over the weekend, Apple has designed and is shipping a custom Face Shield to medical workers on the frontlines of COVID-19. The Computer Emergency Readiness Team, which is part of the Department of Homeland Security, issued security alert (TA16-105A) on Thursday calling for all Windows users to uninstall the program. Trend Micro says it hasn’t discovered any active attacks that target the newly found vulnerabilities (at least not yet). According to Trend Micro’s security bulletin: However, since Apple has abandoned QuickTime for Windows and will no longer support it, the only way to protect yourself from an attack is to get rid of it....

It’s a serious protest at the Chamber’s ineffectiveness at accepting and acting on the dangers of climate change. In a letter to the Chamber president, Apple VP, Catherine Novelli said: “Apple supports regulating greenhouse gas emissions, and it is frustrating to find the Chamber at odds with us in this effort.” As a result, Novelli said, “we have decided to resign our membership effective immediately.” The Chamber has opposed legislation designed to reduce emissions....

Yesterday, we reported the 2012 Mac mini, Retina 13-inch MacBook Pro, and iMac were unable to update to OS X 10.8.2 after Apple pulled the first update from the App Store last Friday. Today, the folks in Cupertino have released their second supplemental update for OS X 10.8.2 that should allow those users to install the update. Additionally, Apple said the update “is recommended for all Mac systems introduced in 2012” and mainly “fixes an issue with Keychain that can affect 2012 Mac systems....

Apple has released the third iOS 11 public beta for iPhone and iPad. This allows users who are not registered developers to test pre-release versions of iOS with new features for free. In terms of stability, the same warnings apply to any pre-release software: apps may crash, battery life won’t be optimal, and expect performance to be sluggish. Earlier this month, Apple quietly introduced some changes to the AppleCare+ plan, which extends the warranty on Apple products and also adds coverage for accidental damage. While previously AppleCare+ offered service for two accidental damages per year, Apple now says that repairs are “unlimited.” On Friday, the company began emailing AppleCare+ customers to remind them about this change. What’s new for AppleCare+ customers The email sent out by Apple once again reinforces that devices covered by the AppleCare+ plan can now take advantage of unlimited repairs for accidental damage, instead of just two incidents every 12 months....

In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal (transcribed by 9To5Mac), John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, said, “We make the world’s best touch computer on an iPad. It’s totally optimized for that. And the Mac is totally optimized for indirect input. We haven’t really felt a reason to change that.” Basically, the company is saying that if you want an Apple device with a touchscreen, they have one ready to go in the iPad....

The fourth iOS 15.4 beta, which just rolled out to developers, adds some features designed to combat people using AirTags to stalk people and steal cars. First, Apple is adding a warning to the setup process that tells people not to use AirTags to track other people. “Using this item to track people without their consent is a crime in many regions around the world. This item is designed to be detected by victims and to enable law enforcement to request identifying information about the owner,” reads the warning....
