On Friday, December 7th, select categories from the upcoming 2019 Grammy Awards will be initially announced exclusively through Apple Music. Due to the passing of former President George H.W. Bush, the original Wednesday, December 5th time-slot was reschedule to accommodate a memorial service. Now, Apple Music subscribers can tune in Friday at 8:30am EST to see “Nominations revealed in select categories”, according to Variety. The only other exclusive provider of these nominations are CBS This Morning, who will be revealing their portion of the nominations at 8:30am, and GRAMMY....

Apple has today expanded its lyric search feature in Apple Music to several new countries. This feature lets users search for songs within Apple Music by simply typing a portion of the lyrics. The company is also expanding lyric availability today as well. Apple Music lyrics were previously available in the United States, Australia, Canada, and the U.K. and are today expanding to Germany, Ireland, South Africa, Spain, Mexico, New Zealand, and France (via MacRumors)....

Apple will hold its kick-off WWDC keynote on Monday, June 7 at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET, but it turns out that this won’t be the only Apple event that morning. Apple Music has now announced a special event, seemingly focused on Spatial Audio, for June 7 at 12 p.m. PT/3 p.m. ET. Nokia has disclosed that Apple made a $2 billion cash payment last quarter as part of the deal to settle patent disputes between the companies. According to the iPhone in Canada blog, American Express representatives have confirmed that eligible American Express bank cards will be able to use Apple Pay from tomorrow in the country, Tuesday November 17th. Apple announced on its last earnings call that American Express would lead the expansion of Apple Pay beyond the UK and US, with Canada and Australia coming by end of year and Spain, Singapore and Hong Kong to be added in 2016....

Apple has published a new page on its website titled “Life on iPad.” The page highlights stories of iPad usage in a variety of capacities from Broadway to the operating room. The page also features the video from the iPad Air keynote showing the iPad in many of these same uses. There are six total stories on the page, each with an entirely different take on how businesses and individuals are using the iPad to to improve their jobs....

One new features the update brings is called CarPlay. This helps you integrate maps, messaging, and music in select 2014 vehicles with built-in touch display’s. As expected, Apple is now rolling out iOS 16.1.1 to iPhone users. The update includes additional bug fixes and security improvements. As we reported earlier this week, Apple has shared that it will open the public beta version of OS X Yosemite tomorrow, July 24th, for users wanting to preview the upcoming version of the Mac operating system ahead of its release targeted for this fall. Users can sign up to be an OS X Beta Program member on Apple’s Beta Program site. Apple says the OS X Yosemite beta will be updated less frequently for the OS X Beta Program than the version via the OS X Developer Program, but users running the public beta of OS X Yosemite will be able to install the final release of OS X Yosemite over the beta version when it’s readied for release in the fall....

Although Apple has yet to confirm the existence of “Project Titan,” it seems like every week brings a new clue that the company is indeed working on an electric car. We learned that Sixty Eight Research, a sketchy firm widely believe to be a front for Apple’s effort in the automotive business, recently attended the 17th Global Car Body Benchmarking Conference in Germany. The list of participants included almost every major automotive company from GM to Honda, as well as a lot of important part suppliers like Magna and Alcoa....

This week, Apple has released its latest Inclusion and Diversity report. The data in the report shows trends in Apple’s workforce between 2014 and 2021. The company has over 165,000 employees globally across its retail, tech, non-tech, and leadership roles. Over time, Apple has been hiring and promoting an increasing number of women and people from underrepresented minorities. The diversity report shows that in 2014, Apple’s workforce was made up of 70% males and 30% females....

As first reported on Monday, Apple is said to be preparing a home automation system for debut at WWDC next week. While this was the first anyone had heard of any such plans, several different sources have quickly come together to give an idea of how an “Apple Smart Home” will likely function. The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced today that it’s forming a new Automation Committee to oversee self-driving transportation policy and one of its 25 members happens to be Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson. According to the department’s press release, the newly formed committee will have its first meeting later this month on January 16 and the focus of the group will be to address “the development and deployment of automated vehicles, and determining the needs of the Department as it continues with its relevant research, policy, and regulations....

The rumors were true: Apple will hold its next special event on March 25th, 10 a.m. local, at Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. Apple Music has launched a new featured playlist that leverages data from its Shazam music recognition service. “Shazam Discovery” highlights 50 “up-and-coming songs from breaking artists” and will be updated weekly. The new playlist is live in the Browse tab of Apple Music with some of the top featured tracks coming from Ohana Bam, A$ton Wyld, Tones and I, and Regard.
